[At first, there's an up close and personal view of a Snivy, curiously fiddling with the Pokegear. A woman calls and the grass-type drops it to go scampering off toward the source. A moment later, Mom Lalonde picks it up.]

Excuse her. Curiosity and mischief bundled into one creature seems to be a combination that yields...interesting results. One of them being the theft of communication devices.

[She shrugs, not really bothered by this. Actually, she looks amused by it.]

That being said, where am I? Not to be ungrateful for another chance at life, but this isn't quite what I expected to end up in.

[The Snivy climbs up onto Mom's shoulder, glancing haughtily at the 'gear.]

Though, the creatures we were given are pretty cute, I have to say. Wherever this is, it's not so bad.

[It can be a hell of a lot worse, anyway.]

But yeah, like I as saying I know her pretty well. obviously not as well as you but you don't get to be best friends with a person by not knowing anything about them.

[Yep, everything clicks neatly into place and she can't help giggling a little.]

You seem like a nice boy, John. As long as you don't get her pregnant or give her a STI, then you have my blessing to date her.

[It's a good thing John wasn't drinking anything just now. He would have chocked, judging by the look on his face.]

It's not like that! We're dating but we aren't doing anything like that!

What he meant to say, mother, is that we're engaged, but we aren't doing anything like that.

Engaged, now? Johnny, you've been keeping secrets!

[She grins. This is too much fun!]

Should I start making plans for the wedding?

Well yeah, but not for a while!

Well, at least you won't deny me grandchildren.

Well I like kids s-- that's not the point! The point is that won't happen for several years so it's really a non-issue right now!

[A beat.]

And I haven't been keeping secrets from you I just figured that was something Rose would want to tell you herself. Which...she did. And now you know.

Engagement is very important, dear! [gonna make this private between the three of them right now.] How old are you both now?

Err... four...teen...

[Suddenly this is awkward to admit again. And here he thought he was over that.]

Well, I am at least. For a few more months, anyway.

Isn't it a little early to think about this?

[Granted, she thinks it's cute and everything, but she's worried they're rushing.]

Yeah it... [He sighs, seeming to shrink a little. Of all the people to say that, Mom stabs his confidence the deepest.] wasn't something I had planned on doing when I did it? It just kind of...happened.

Would you mind telling me how it happened? I don't mind the engagement, sweetheart, I'm just worried you're rushing into it.

[Mom's trying to be gentle, at least.]

For the record, I'm fifteen, and as far as how it happened, we were both under the influence of some rather powerful love songs sung by local Pokemon. But we had a talk about it the following day, when we were both a bit more aware of ourselves, and it included the idea that perhaps this was a little quick.

But we were both fine with the idea. I love him, and I have a hard time imagining that this wouldn't happen eventually anyway. Either way, the marriage won't be until far later, if it eases your concerns any.

Alright, then I'm absolutely fine with it. Just remember, no grandkids until you're 20 at the earliest.
